"The Anti-Dow Chemical Protest on Oct. 18, 1967, as Seen through a Broken Window at the Commerce Building," Wisconsin State Journal, October 18, 1967
In October 1967, University of Wisconsin-Madison students challenged Dow Chemical’s influence in governance and the Vietnam War. With their outcry, they broke through the barriers of fear instilled by the University and government authorities as well as a nationalistic culture of blind obedience to the government. The Dow Riots helped reshape UW policies and forever made Madison, Wisconsin a city of change.
"The Dow Riot of October 18 was the pivotal political event of the decade. It had a profound and permanent impact on the city and University." ~ Stu Levitan, Wisconsin State Journal, October 8, 2017
